In their latest showdown, Mat Watson lines up two of the most extreme Bugattis ever made: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/the-bugatti-chiron-super-sport-the-worlds-fastest-and-most-luxurious-gt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiron Super Sport<\/a> and the Chiron Pur Sport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"599\">Though these two hypercars share the same ferocious 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, all-wheel drive, and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, they\u2019re engineered for very different goals. The Super Sport is built to dominate top-speed records, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/bugatti-chiron-pur-sport-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pur Sport<\/a> is tuned for agility and track-focused driving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"924\">On spec, the Super Sport has the edge in power, putting out a staggering 1,600 horsepower compared to the Pur Sport\u2019s 1,500. Torque figures are identical at 1,600 Nm, but the Pur Sport shaves a bit of weight, coming in at 1,945 kg \u2014 50 kg less than its sibling \u2014 and features shorter gearing that favors quick acceleration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"1173\">So how did this play out on the strip? In the first run, things got off to a shaky start. The Super Sport didn\u2019t launch cleanly \u2014 its &#8216;Track&#8217; mode wasn\u2019t ideal for drag racing. After switching to &#8216;Road&#8217; mode for a better takeoff, they tried again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1424\">This time, both cars rocketed off the line properly, but the Pur Sport made the most of its gearing and lighter weight, crossing the quarter mile in 9.4 seconds. The Super Sport wasn\u2019t far behind, clocking 9.7 seconds, but it couldn\u2019t close the gap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1731\">To shake things up, they went for a rolling race from 10 mph. The Pur Sport grabbed the early lead again, but as speeds climbed, the Super Sport started to reel it in.
