Porsche is set to launch the next generation of its legendary one-make cup race car, the new Porsche 911 Cup, with a world debut slated for this summer. Built on the updated 992.2 generation of the iconic 911, the comprehensively refined racing machine is expected to make its competitive debut in the 2026 season, including in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Carrera Cup series worldwide, such as Porsche Carrera Cup North America.<\/p>\n

Since its inception in 1990, the Porsche 911 has served as the foundation for the marque\u2019s highly successful one-make cup series. Originally launched with the German Porsche Carrera Cup, the program quickly expanded to include the Porsche Supercup in 1993, running alongside select Formula 1\u00ae Grand Prix events. Over the years, this initiative has evolved into a global racing phenomenon.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Today, Porsche Carrera Cups are hosted in over a dozen countries across continents \u2014 from Asia and Japan to the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Australia. Complementing these are 23 Porsche Sprint and Endurance Challenges, all employing 911 GT3 Cup cars. With 5,381 units produced to date, these are among the most prolific race cars ever built.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As with previous models, the new 911 Cup car is manufactured alongside street-legal 911s at Porsche’s main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The current iteration, introduced in 2021 (Type 992.1), has seen over 1,130 units produced, with each car assembled in just under eight hours \u2014 a testament to Porsche\u2019s efficiency and dedication to motorsport excellence.<\/p>\n

Development of the new Cup car began in January 2024 at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, with a focus on elevating performance through enhanced aerodynamics, vehicle electronics, brakes, transmission, and engine response. The car continues to merge series production DNA with motorsport-grade technology.<\/p>\n

“We are already operating at a very high-performance level with the current GT3 Cup,”<\/em> said Jan Feldmann, Project Manager for GT racing cars at Porsche Motorsport. “This has allowed us to focus more on feedback from the global one-make cups and develop a racing car that has been refined in many areas.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Testing took place on three demanding tracks: Monza, the Lausitzring, and Porsche\u2019s Weissach test circuit. Notable test drivers included Bastian Buus (2023 Supercup champion), Klaus Bachler (2024 LMGT3 Endurance Trophy winner), Laurin Heinrich (2024 IMSA GTD Pro champion), and experienced racer Marco Seefried.<\/p>\n

In alignment with Porsche\u2019s push toward sustainable motorsport, the new 911 Cup has been tested exclusively with the eFuel blend used in the 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. This synthetic racing fuel meets FIA\u2019s Appendix J regulations for “Advanced Sustainable” fuels and achieves a 66% CO2 reduction compared to fossil fuel equivalents.<\/p>\n

Comprising 79.7% renewable content, the blend features methanol-to-gasoline (MtG) synthetic gasoline and waste-derived ethanol, optimized to enhance oxygen content and octane (100.5 RON). Specifically developed for high-performance boxer engines, this fuel allows Porsche to maintain peak performance while significantly lowering environmental impact.<\/p>\n
