In <\/span>a <\/span>drag <\/span>race <\/span>filmed <\/span>by <\/span>Jason Cammisa<\/span><\/span> for Hagerty<\/a><\/span>, <\/span>the <\/span>1,250-<\/span>hp <\/span>Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X<\/span><\/span><\/a> challenges <\/span>the <\/span>world\u2019s <\/span>quickest-<\/span>accelerating <\/span>production <\/span>car, <\/span>the <\/span>1,234-<\/span>hp <\/span>Lucid Air Sapphire<\/span><\/span>, <\/span>on <\/span>regular <\/span>asphalt <\/span>rather <\/span>than <\/span>a <\/span>prepared <\/span>drag <\/span>strip.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Corvette <\/span>combines <\/span>a <\/span>twin-<\/span>turbo <\/span>flat-<\/span>plane-<\/span>crank <\/span>V8 <\/span>with <\/span>an <\/span>electric <\/span>front <\/span>motor <\/span>for <\/span>all-<\/span>wheel <\/span>drive, <\/span>aiming <\/span>to <\/span>dethrone <\/span>the <\/span>EV <\/span>sedan <\/span>that <\/span>previously <\/span>beat <\/span>a <\/span>Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport<\/span><\/span><\/a> and <\/span>a <\/span>Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170<\/span><\/span><\/a> in <\/span>earlier <\/span>tests.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Corvette <\/span>runs <\/span>the <\/span>ZTK <\/span>track <\/span>package <\/span>with <\/span>Michelin <\/span>Pilot <\/span>Sport <\/span>Cup <\/span>2R <\/span>tires, <\/span>while <\/span>the <\/span>Lucid <\/span>uses <\/span>optional <\/span>Pirelli <\/span>P <\/span>Zero <\/span>Trofeo <\/span>RS <\/span>tires <\/span>for <\/span>improved <\/span>traction. <\/span>Two \u201c<\/span>fast\u201d <\/span>cars <\/span>provide <\/span>perspective: <\/span>the <\/span>328-<\/span>hp <\/span>Volkswagen Golf R<\/span><\/span> and <\/span>the <\/span>523-<\/span>hp <\/span>BMW M2 CS<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>The <\/span>Golf <\/span>receives <\/span>a <\/span>football-<\/span>field <\/span>head <\/span>start, <\/span>and <\/span>the <\/span>M2 <\/span>launches <\/span>300 <\/span>feet <\/span>closer <\/span>to <\/span>the <\/span>finish.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instrumented <\/span>testing <\/span>shows <\/span>the <\/span>Corvette <\/span>and <\/span>Lucid <\/span>reaching <\/span>60 <\/span>mph <\/span>almost <\/span>identically, <\/span>separated <\/span>by <\/span>only <\/span>hundredths <\/span>of <\/span>a <\/span>second. <\/span>Both <\/span>run <\/span>roughly <\/span>9.1-<\/span>second <\/span>quarter <\/span>miles <\/span>on <\/span>asphalt. <\/span>The <\/span>Corvette <\/span>edges <\/span>ahead <\/span>early <\/span>thanks <\/span>to <\/span>traction <\/span>but <\/span>loses <\/span>ground <\/span>at <\/span>higher <\/span>speeds <\/span>due <\/span>to <\/span>aerodynamic <\/span>drag <\/span>from <\/span>its <\/span>large <\/span>rear <\/span>wing. <\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>finish <\/span>is <\/span>so <\/span>close <\/span>that <\/span>measurement <\/span>equipment <\/span>struggles <\/span>to <\/span>determine <\/span>a <\/span>clear <\/span>winner. <\/span>By <\/span>official <\/span>numbers <\/span>the <\/span>Lucid <\/span>claims <\/span>the <\/span>victory, <\/span>though <\/span>visually <\/span>the <\/span>Corvette <\/span>appears <\/span>to <\/span>cross <\/span>first.<\/span><\/p>\n
