Quattro permanent all-wheel drive distributed power through a six-speed automatic transmission. Displacing 4,991cc with a 84.5mm bore and 88.4mm stroke, it featured all-aluminum construction, direct fuel injection, and dual overhead camshafts per bank. Two BorgWarner turbochargers, one per cylinder bank, provided forced induction.
