A recent onboard video published by Robbert Alblas<\/a> on YouTube offers a thrilling look at the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3<\/a> attacking the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Captured from the cockpit, the footage highlights not only the car\u2019s remarkable pace but also the unmistakable soundtrack of its naturally aspirated V8 engine, whose thunderous exhaust note has become one of the defining sounds of modern GT racing.<\/p>\n

Developed as a dedicated customer racing machine, the SLS AMG GT3 was introduced in 2010 and homologated under FIA GT3 regulations for competition around the world. Beneath its long hood sits AMG\u2019s hand-built 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8, paired with a motorsport-spec six-speed sequential gearbox operated via steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. While exact output figures were subject to FIA Balance of Performance regulations, the race-prepared engine was capable of producing approximately 600 horsepower, surpassing the road-going SLS AMG.<\/p>\n

The GT3 chassis was extensively reengineered for circuit use. A fully adjustable forged-aluminum suspension system allows teams to fine-tune camber, ride height, damping, and track settings to suit different racing environments. Lightweight center-lock 18-inch forged wheels are fitted with racing slicks, while large steel brake rotors, clamped by six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, deliver consistent stopping power in compliance with GT3 regulations.<\/p>\n

Weighing just under 1,350 kilograms (2,976 pounds), the SLS AMG GT3 was significantly lighter than its road-car counterpart. Combined with its aggressive aerodynamic package, including a prominent rear wing, widened bodywork, and front splitter, the car quickly established itself as a formidable endurance racer, securing numerous victories before eventually being succeeded by the Mercedes-AMG GT3.<\/p>\n
