The Lamborghini Cheetah<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The story starts in 1977 with the unveiling of the Lamborghini Cheetah at the Geneva Motor Show. Originally designed as a military vehicle, the radical prototype featured all-wheel drive and a rear-mounted Chrysler V8 engine. Although it never secured the military contract it was created for, the Cheetah planted the seeds for one of Lamborghini’s most surprising success stories.<\/p>\n

Its successor, the LM001, retained the rear-engine layout but proved flawed in extreme off-road conditions. Enter legendary engineer Giulio Alfieri, who completely reimagined the project by moving Lamborghini’s iconic V12 to the front. The result was the LM002.<\/p>\n

LM002: The Original Super SUV<\/h3>\n

Debuting in 1986, the LM002 was unlike anything the automotive world had seen. Powered by the 5.2-litre V12 from the Countach Quattrovalvole, producing 450 CV, the 2.7-ton behemoth could exceed 200 km\/h while effortlessly tackling desert terrain thanks to specially developed Pirelli Scorpion tires.<\/p>\n

Combining genuine off-road capability with handcrafted luxury, leather upholstery and air conditioning, the LM002 effectively invented the high-performance luxury SUV segment decades before it became fashionable. Just 301 examples were built before production ended in 1992.<\/p>\n

The Return of a Legend: Urus<\/h3>\n

Twenty-five years later, Lamborghini resurrected the idea with the Urus, unveiled in production form in 2017.<\/p>\n

The new model represented a turning point for both the brand and the wider industry. Its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the first turbocharged engine in Lamborghini’s modern history, produced 650 CV and 850 Nm of torque, launching the Super SUV from 0-100 km\/h in just 3.6 seconds and onto a 305 km\/h top speed.<\/p>\n

Technologies including rear-wheel steering, active anti-roll bars and the innovative Tamburo driving selector gave the Urus the handling characteristics of a supercar while retaining genuine SUV practicality.
