The Lexus LFA and Dodge Viper ACR represent two radically different approaches to the naturally aspirated V10, making their carwow<\/a> runway showdown an intriguing test of power delivery, gearing, traction, and driver technique.<\/p>\n

The Lexus LFA<\/a> is powered by a hand-built 4.8-liter naturally aspirated V10 producing 560 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque. Its high-revving character is matched to a six-speed automated manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Weighing roughly 1.5 tons, the LFA combines relatively modest mass with an engine renowned for its exceptionally rapid throttle response and high-rpm performance.<\/p>\n

Its 8.4-liter naturally aspirated V10 originally developed more than 600 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque, while this particular example has been modified with an ECU tune, headers, and a full exhaust system, bringing output to approximately 650 horsepower. Unlike the Lexus, the Viper relies on a six-speed manual transmission, leaving launch and gear changes entirely to its driver.<\/p>\n

The competition includes standing-start acceleration, rolling races from different speeds, and a braking test, creating a broader comparison than a simple quarter-mile contest. The LFA’s automated manual gearbox also introduces its own operational considerations, including a cooldown period between launch-control attempts.<\/p>\n
