Great Performance From SLP, The Add Ons Just Cost Too Much For t

Discussion in '1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTX Ram Air' started by 84vette, Aug 10, 2002.

  1. This definitely has to be considered a modern muscle car with a 6.7 0-60 time. Its too bad that SLP charges too much for the 15-20 hp gained. It is almost more worth it to buy a GTP and do the upgrades yourself. If Pontiac keeps buildingthe GTP, GTX, builds the G8 and doesn't let the body style drag on for too long without change, the Grand Prix could be put in the place of the saddly deceased Trans-Am.

Weird, they've been around since 97 and I have yet to see a single article or anything from a major magazine. They whale on any other sedan in their price range and no one pays any attention. As for the upgrades, go with gtp and switch the pulley (down to a 3.4 I think) and that will add around 30hp. Not bad for 80 bux... You can go down to like a 3.2 I think if you know what your doing and add even more for that same price...

I think this is probobly one of the most under appreciated cars ever. It's such a great car and none of the magazines seem to care.<!-- Signature -->

Hey vetteman I'm not putting down the corvette personally I love them but your complaining about slp's prices for aftermarket performance try taking a look at corvette upgrade prices. You can't do anything to a vette without spending a couple of grand. And I put basically every performance part on my '99 gtp that I could find spending about $8000 then $3000 on rims-tires and $3500 on sounds adding that total to what I paid for my car you get $30000 then I smoked my buddy in his '99 vette w/ a 6-speed that he paid $35000 for. Granted he's driving a vette and thats a bragging right in itself I still know my car is faster.

For anyone who wants a new s/c pulley for their grand prix go to www.pfyc.com and look under grand prix. Stock size is 3.8", they offer 3.4" (most reasonable on a stock engine and you still get 25-30hp IF you have a cold air intake), 3.25" and 3.0". The 3.25" and 3.0" are not recommended for a stock engine becuase it puts a lot more stress on the engine and doesn't necessarily give you more gain unless you do more work. Cams, rockers, port/polish...stuff like that can help a 3.25" and 3.0" with more power and torque. All in all the pulley's $65.00 and a new belt is recommended which is only $20.00.
