I just checked the site that was supposedly going to merge with ours, and it appears as though it's still being worked on and updated. The layout and colours etc have changed, and the last article (about the Alfa Romeo BAT) was posted earlier today.

http://blog.supercars.net/blog/

The "forum" link at the top still redirects here, and the FB link still redirects to the page a lot of us have been on for ages.

It may still be happening?

2. it's too much wordpress for my taste.

3. I don't think we are in the position to be picky about the layout

4. that's true

5. The point is, the new owner(s) do still seem to be working on something. It would just be nice to know how far along they are.

6. oh you mean you dont like it?

7. Looks like it. And they use quite a few sc.net pics

they own the facebook page too now, right? So I guess you could contact them via FB...

8. great minds think alike. I already have

Around the time of the new owner posting here talking of plans for upgrades, that blog site was found i think by woot, amd the facebook profile picture and cover photo changed but nothing else has been done to the FB page since.

9. Maybe you can hack the wp-admin and get picky about that layout.

10. Just so long as they reinstate my mod powers I'll be happy

11. I've had a reply. I'll copypasta:

Hey James

I appreciate the outreach. I personally have been slammed so haven't had time to visit the forum to update you guys. Here's what's happening:

1) all the existing content from supercars.net (the cars and galleries) are being migrated over to the blog. there are hundreds of thousands of images and 6,000+ posts. We are about halfway through. The main reason we are doing this is because the platform was old and looked crap. The new design is modern, responsive, better organization and tagging so finding and updating things is much easier. We will soon be posting roles for the site too for those who want to make some money writing posts and finding news on the car industry.
2) the forum has been upgraded to xenforo. it took about a month to do and it looks awesome. Most of the month was an expert migrating all the old things. Lots of edge cases. we migrated everything on the forum so close to nothing is lost and the upside in functionality and usability is a big leap. You guys are going to love it. You will even be able to use your current username and passwords to access everything.

The issue is we cannot turn it on because of hosting infrastructure. Our upgraded blog and forum are on much newer and more scalable infrastructure and the old stuff isn't. We've tried every trick in the book to turn on the new forum on existing infrastructure while we migrate the cars and images over. No can do. Right now we are migrating old posts as fast as we can. Honestly, probably another month or so. I could probably stand up a version of the forum now so you can at least see and play with it. Won't be perfect but at least you guys will know I'm not full of crap . What do you think?

Please feel free to post this to the forum and let the guys know.

Nick

And BTW, you can ping me anytime. I bought the site because I love cars and I want the site and forum to be awesome. This feedback and the feedback from the guys is awesome. Facebook is the perfect way too since I always have that open It was clear that some lipstick, logo and design work wasn't going to cut it though so I injected some real money into upgrading everything. Better platform, way way way superior forum software and Amazon cloud infrastructure. We're closer than we were a moth ago.

12. So... calls for a preview of the forum? orrr are you guys happy to just keep waiting until it's actually finished.

EDIT: I say we may as well wait.

13. I'm afraid of changes.

14. Wait... what happened? New owners? This is all news to me.

15. xenforo? sweet ill finally be able to tweet those wacky knuckle headed posts by sc.net members

There was a thread around Christmas about the fate of the site, and just by chance at that time there was a post in that thread by admin - but it wasn't Rich. It was Nick!

To cut a long story short. There's a new site http://blog.supercars.net/blog/ and there's a new forum on the way but because the old site (this one that we're using) is such an ancient, decrepit cluster#$%# it's taking them WAY longer than originally assumed to transfer everything over. We're all keeping our accounts and passwords etc

I messaged the guy because we'd not seen any changes since but it seems as though they're still working on it all. The crux of it is we're going to have a new forum in about a month or so

17. I think the world needs to know about hemistage

18. Excellent

19. If say just migrate any thread from this past year, archive this site, and get it going.

20. haha wait til he finds out none of us care about cars anymore

21. I guess the idea is to actually get new traffic to the site and for it to make money in the end. As far as members on this forum though, we're going to just be the "old guys" if we stay around.

We've been invisible on the Internet for ages and left to our own devices so a lot of stuff just slides because of apathy, but if he does expect a forum with tons more members and visibility on today's social media then somehow there's going to have to be a shift in the way some people come across. Don't want to end up in the Daily Mail for some ridiculously out of proportion Twitter storm.

Less racism and death threats from hemi, for a start.

22. i can't wait till new members are here and hemi will go crazy on 14 year old kids LOL

seriously can't wait

23. Interesting that we'll be able to use our existing user names and passwords to log in, when that's not even a consistent feature on the current boards.
