Only Ford.....

  1. ..would build a truck that looks like and shares a name with a toy. You don't see GM building a Barbie Corvette.

  2. Re: Only Ford.....

yeah man ... this is an embarassment

  3. Re: Only Ford.....

Tonka refers to being big. If it were named after the toy the name tonka would have the trademark symbol (tm) after the word "tonka".

  4. Re: Only Ford.....

No, it was named after the toy as pointed out by Motortrend. Why else would they name it Tonka and paint it an ugly yellow color?

  5. Re: Only Ford.....

Tonka means "Great" in Souix Indian language. That is where they got Tonka from and it is yellow to prove that, if used right, doesn't make a car ugly. It also makes it stand out moe.

  6. Re: Only Ford.....

The only person that would complian that it's named after a toy company that used to make the tuffest auto toys on the planet used to play with barbie dolls. This truck is made for tuff younger generation that grew up.

  7. Re: Only Ford.....

It is not named after Tonka (the toy manufacture), look at my last post. I saw why it was called Tonka in Truck Trend.

  8. Re: Only Ford.....

Anyways about the tonka (the truck not the toy) being a toy. HELLO!! 600 lb/ft of torque! Thats a toy?? BTW the look is a concept, it will not look this way when i comes out. The engine however isn't a concept. That is the new engine. I also heard even F150s will be vailable with a diesel. SWEET!

  9. Re: Only Ford.....

Not a diesel this big, however, in the F-150s

  10. Re: Only Ford.....

if i ever saw one im afraid i might have to pee on it, be it at a car show, a cunstruction yard, a driveway, or most likly the trashcan.

  11. Re: Only Ford.....

Guys like you would jump in your little truck and drive like hell hoping that it won't hunt you down and run you over.

  12. Re: Only Ford.....

Ford is borderline, and I'm not a truck man, but this truck is cool, looks like a Ram, but the one thing that makes it cool is the fact that I could tow my house with me everywhere I go.

By the way about being hunted down and run over: LOL.

**Guys like you would jump in your little truck and drive like hell hoping that it won't hunt you down and run you over.**

guys like me dont buy little trucks that serve no real point because they cant haul anything and lack power of the real trucks they are suposed to emulate. and im sorry but if you actually like and want something like this, you have severe self esteme issues that need to be addressed.

  14. Re: Only Ford.....

This truck is sweet. Nothing says "I'm BIG" and "Get outta my way" more than this does. And beware you Chevy, GMC, and Dodge lovers. It is now official that the engine in this beast (slightly less powerful then these engine stats with 325 HP @ 3300 RPM and 560 torque @ 2000 RPM) will be found in the 2003 Superduties and Excursions. A smaller version will be availible in the F-150s but not for next year.

I drive a 'big ol' Silverado truck. It looks basicly stock, except under the hood it puts out 500Hp to the rear Normally Apirated. ITs fun finding little Japanese cars and pulling up behind them. Especially when they think they are faster and start power shifting. I leave them a couplem miles back.

  16. Re: Only Ford.....

So, I bet it's also fun when you do the same to them on a highway, pull out to pass them and roll your truck eh? or do you back down from the races that require handling?<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/cboardhtml/emoticons/wink.gif"></A>

  17. Re: Only Ford.....

Large trucks handle well if you know how to drive them like a race car driver. In other words, brake while you take sharp corners and jump on the gas coming out of a corner. Put the weight on the tires that need it the most.

  18. Re: Only Ford.....

To date I have NEVER been in an accident. I have passed many cars on the highway and raced down sections with a curves. I have never been passes by a car that I din't want to pass me.

  19. Re: Only Ford.....

Ford Rocks [insert sinister laugh here]! (chant this over and over [Down with imports!])

    I just felt like saying that <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/cboardhtml/emoticons/PnutSpecial.gif"></A>

  20. Re: Only Ford.....

LOL braking while turning wouldn't be a very good idea, transfers the weight to the front and out, the very thing that causes rollovers.

  21. Re: Only Ford.....

Your point??, hell I don't even consider that worth bragging about driving a car with 130bhp, perhaps you're compensating for something, or lack thereof?<A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/emoticons.html"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="http://speed.supercars.net/cboardhtml/emoticons/wink.gif"></A>

first you brag about having a Silverado with 500bhp, then you brag about having only been passed by people you want to pass you.....

  22. Re: Only Ford.....

Wrong, you oviously don't know how to corner fast. I do it in my full size truck all the time.

  23. Re: Only Ford.....

I've seen it happen way too often, come to BC where we have REAL roads.

Everybody's always saying how young kids driving "rice rockets" are hazardous on the roads, truth is, I dunno about anywhere else, but particularly during the winter in BC you always see people in trucks pushing their luck, passing at the wrong time, like on a double solid into a blind corner at 120km/h when there's a long line of cars, weaving in and out on the slush, thinking they're all that cause they're in a Big Truck, and that they're invincible, and if you don't get pissed off and pass them by and leave them way behind, 3 out of 10 times you see them an hour later, rolled off the road down a bank truck totalled, being hauled off in an ambulance.

And I know where you get that idea from, I've driven trucks, and they're not that bad, until you start going 160, then you can really feel the truck leaning no matter how well you take the corner. And I know you can put a truck on its side if you break heavily then turn in, because I've done it (intentionally of course) a friend had an old '80's beater Bronco and had just gotten a new car, we decided to have fun with it, we got a bet going to see who could roll the thing at the slowest speed, I won at just over 50km/h, by braking hard and turning sharp as I started to brake, the thing did last that kind of abuse for a while though, I think it was still running 3 months later.

No, people overestimate the handling ability of their beloved trucks.

now i can deal with that. that sounds like fun. i respect your truck, but im sorry, i didnt mean to seem so harsh before, but i dont think this particular vehicle has a threatening look. sure the engine is a force to be reconed with, but put it in a truck with a better design. maybe a truck that doesnt try to be a giant hauling superduty dumptruck that just ended out ugly as sin.

  25. Re: Only Ford.....

Your not from the US are you. I'm not going to start this argument but i said brake and turn at the same time which if you were turning right, it would put the majority of the weight on the left front wheel giving you better traction. My truck is about as big as it gets (4x4 Extended cab Long box w/351 ci V8) and I know how it behaves and how far I can push it. It definately has a long wheelbase, low center of gravity, and won't roll unless your trying. FYI: Broncos are SUVs with short wheelbases and a high center of gravity that is prone to roll, not a truck.
