1. My pops has an M5 and my friend has an M3, both 2001. These two cars are like in the same ratio of automobiles. They handle about the same, and have about the exact 0-60 times. The only real differences are the size, engine type (horspower) and weight. These cars are really nice cars that are just made to well, its scary.
I was talking to the guy who sold my dad his M5 at the dealership and he was saying if they made an M3 with a V8 engine and sold it to regular people, what the hell reason is there for an m5, after all that power in a 3 series, you got urself a dream car and no need for anything else.

3. This BMW is ugly!
4. They can. But do you really want a short strock race engine? That's like, "Went to the store, gotta rebuild my engine".
5. the m3 and the m5 are equally fast. (dont count the m3 drop top version though). the m3 gtr is rumored to have a road going version or something like that and i've heard the upcoming m3 is gonna have a v8.
6. Yep, sounds like a V8 is M3-bound. Let's hope it's pretty close to this new 4 litre if so...hehe.

stealing? please did u see the years of generations of bmw? u wudnt kno the first thing of a bmw. and what a dam coincidence, ure a porsche lover
8. BMW were going to put a V8 in the e46 m3, it was going to come standard with a v8, but it was too heavy and the weight distribution #$%#ed everything up and the idea was abandoned
9. a 4 liter V8 would not weigh a whole lot more than the 3.2. Back when I have my Ford ranger I found out that my 2.9L V6 was only 100lbs less than the 5.0L V8, and I'm positive that BMW is more advanced in the weight department than ford was in 1988.
10. still does hurt the car tho that little weight... what they cud do is make the m3 a little bigger to handle that weight but i kinda like it the way it is the only problem is the 0-60 on the stock m3... 4.8 sec isnt good on the track

Why can't they throw one of these engines in one of the M3's that are being produced, at least as an option.

The M3's inline 6 is a part of BMW's heritage and serves the E46 M3 well. But a V8 M3 would surely be a nice option.
12. M5 would still have its place, it's a saloon car, whereas the M3 is a sports coupè. I'm sure plenty of people would still fork out the extra $$ for an M5.
13. Whether u win by an inch or by mile , winnings is winning im sorry this is off the topic but onther second age or so lotec gtr has this on his signature ... let me explain something to you lotec winning by an inch is winning but winning by a mile is what makes legends like the ferrari 250gto and by the way fast and the furius sucked ass it made me soo mad!!!
