Re: Bye bye F-Body & hello Vette

  1. When the Camaro comes back i'm sure it will compete with this.<!-- Signature -->

  2. I'm not thinking so much of a Vette competitor, just a faster 'Stang. This Mustang weighs 500 lbs more than a Vette, so that will hinder handling, and basically negate it's horsepower/torque advantage that it has over a regular C5. If it's suspension is set in the same way as the Cobra R, it may be a good track car.

  3. bottom line is,

Once again ford uses a supercharged factory tuned engine setup which negates ease of future tuning. 2. It is still a mustang and just the sheer weight and body size disadvantages will make it not compete well with the vette.

  4. Best Mustang yet and it looks great. It still can't hang with the Vette though.

  5. Supercharger negating tuning? Have you ever dealt with a factory supercharged car? Forced induction makes most modifications that much better. Take a look at the boys with Lightnings. A computer chip and filter can net you 50HP at the wheels. Add a pulley and you are looking at a good 80RWHP. Show me a NA car that you can spend $1000 and pick up 100HP. Nevermind the 2003 Cobra has built internals so it will be more durable. A 500HP Cobra should be easily attainable with little modifications. The reality is if Ford had made a naturally aspirated 390HP Cobra, tuning would be very difficult. It would have to be high compression which makes adding forced induction much more difficult, it would have much less torque and a narrower powerband making everyday driving less rewarding, and it would likely be tuned pretty much to the max leaving little room to pick up power from mods. Just look at something like a Acura Integra Type R. You are lucky to pick up 10HP total from all the normal bolt-ons. The car is already tuned to the hilt from the factory. You can get more but it ain't easy or cheap. Plus it's high compression ratio makes it unfriendly to forced induction leaving most owners to keep the boost way down.
As for a Cobra being on par or competing with a Vette, I agree with you. People are crazy to compare. 1. a Cobra costs a good $10k less that a Vette. 2. The Vette's chassis is lightyears better than a Cobra.
This is the fastest Cobra ever, but the Vette is all around a much better car. They are just in different classes and I don't think either car takes away from the other. People looking for a $35k sports car won't look at a Vette becuase $10k isn't exactly pocket change and people shopping in the Vette's price range aren't going to look at a Cobra. For $35k I don't think you can find a better power bang for the buck, but certainly if you can afford a Vette it will be a better car.

  6. Forget the vette ! Everybody knows the vette will be the best in a race track due to his aerodynamics and weight.

The point is that the aerodynamics are really good for large corners over 60mph and straight lines over 100mph.

But this is a Muscle Car ! He's made to race on city streets.

In a city street race you average speed is allways under 70mph, it's corner after corner, all 90 degree, really up and really down like you'll never see on a race track.

This car has too a high ride height than the vette (good for the "up and down" of citys like San Francisco) !

How many corvette owners are going to race tracks to use their cars ? Only magazines do that !

What's the reason for me to use a 4x4 F-250 on New York ? None.
The same you will happen with the vette on a street ! The advantages will disaper !

Both (the Vette and this Mustang) are with much....much more torque than the Ferrari F50 !!!

This will be a dogfight on the streets and on the market !

Thinking that there will be no Camaro/Firebird to fight, and the price of this demon will be low enough, this will sell a lot !<!-- Signature -->

  7. First you cant get 100 hp for 1000 on a lightninng sorry, thats assinine. Second if you look at the other factory supercharged cars, such as the grand prix gtp, it is hard to tune them well , due to that shitty eaton blower. Most companies choos eaton as their stock blowers because they are cheap to build on masse, and that makes them not the best around. It is possible to tune this car, just expensive as with the gtp.

  8. Lightning ??

Oh my God ! Again and again and again and again

  9. Nobody even knows the price on this thing yet. It may be out of F-body class in performance, but it will also be in price. Anyways, If GM made a supercharged F-body, it owuld get that power too. There are supercharger kits that boost power of The 5.7L f-bodies by over 100 horses. Get a WS6 and supercharge. Math time

    325 hp + 100 hp = 425 hp
    425>390.

    525-390=35

That extra 35, plus Firebird's better aeodymanics and handling, means better car and oly for a few grand more. Don't believe me? you do the math.<!-- Signature -->

Ford said that they want to keep this car under $35,000, thats not really that much more than a camaro ss or a firebird! What maybe 1-2 thousand more, if that. And yes you can supercharge you firebird or camaro, but than you won't have a warrenty on the engine anymore, were with the new cobra you get a sc, 390hp, firebird killing power, and still have the warrenty left. I love this car!

  11. hey Lido wre you a mustang desingner in the 60's?????????

  12. I'm just an old man on a computer taking an opportunity to talk to the american youth. Reading and learning what you all are knowing and thinking today.

To you all, I'm anonymous. It's cool. [almost] Nobody here knows who is Lido Iacocca. A lot of boy come blamming me and sometimes I make some mistakes. But you can see that I like too much Mustangs and Vipers.<!-- Signature -->

  13. you're also an obnoxious idiot.

  14. You too.<!-- Signature -->

  15. not vette competition, ford overrates hp all the time, its heavy, and in the end of the day you still have to say you drive a mustang, thats reason enough to not get one <IMG SRC="http://www.supercars.net/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif">
