The Sussex Trophy race at the Goodwood Revival 2014 was held Friday, September 12th at the 2.4-mile, 7-turn Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England. A sell-out crowd watched in awe as 30 stunning 1950s sports racing prototypes raced into dusk in the first race of the weekend.
The 2014 Sussex Trophy race featured World Championship sports cars and production sports racing cars from 1955 to 1960. The likes of the Aston Martin DBR1, Ferrari 246S Dino and 860 Monza, Lotus 15, Lister Kobbly and Costin and Maserati 300S and Birdcage models were all perfectly suited to perform around fast, sweeping curves found at Goodwood. For the first time the Sussex Trophy was a two-driver race this year and it took place on the Friday evening of the Revival, finishing at dusk.
Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen claimed victory in their Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobbly’, resisting Bobby Verdon-Roe’s charge from seventh to the runner-up spot in the second half of the hour-long race in his Ferrari 246S Dino, which had started from pole position. The Chevrolet-powered Lister Knobbly of McCaig and Smith rounded out the podium.
