Among those newly named on Queen Elizabeth II’s New Years Honours List to the Order of the British Empire is famed Jaguar test and development driver Norman Dewis, now known as Norman Dewis OBE.
The now 94-year-old Dewis enjoyed a 33-year career at Jaguar, logging more than a million test miles, and is widely regarded as England’s foremost test driver. He developed many of the marque’s most famous models, including the Le Mans-winning C- and
D-Types, as well as the exquisite E-Type. He also set a land speed record of 172.412 mph with an XK120 on Belgium’s Jabbeke Highway in 1953.
In recent years he’s served as a good will ambassador for the company, working with Jaguar Heritage to keep the name and its history alive and flourishing.
