Bentley has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive artistry with the debut of its exclusive “Ombré by Mulliner” paint finish on a four-door sedan for the very first time. Known for blending bespoke craftsmanship with cutting-edge design, Bentley introduces this hand-painted marvel on the Flying Spur, showcasing a seamless transition between two complementary colours across its elegant bodywork.
The showcased Flying Spur wears a stunning combination of Topaz Blue at the front that gradually shifts into the deep sophistication of Windsor Blue at the rear. This graceful fade sweeps across the car’s sides, roof, doors, and sills, creating a dramatic yet harmonious flow of colour. Achieving such perfection requires nearly 60 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. Two of Bentley’s highly skilled paint technicians at the brand’s Dream Factory in Crewe carry out the process entirely by hand. Beginning with individual coats at the front and rear, the transition is built up in carefully controlled stages, with traditional mixing methods ensuring a flawless Ombré effect. Precision is key — the fade must remain symmetrical from side to side.
Beyond the Topaz-to-Windsor palette, Bentley offers two additional striking pairings: Sunburst Gold to Orange Flame and Tungsten to Onyx. Each combination is curated with extreme care to avoid unwanted “third colours” emerging during the blending process. For example, a blue-to-yellow fade would unintentionally produce green — something Bentley’s artisans have purposefully avoided. Instead, the chosen palettes ensure a smooth, elegant, and consistent transition that maintains Bentley’s exacting standards.
What makes the process truly remarkable is the human element. Every paint behaves differently once it is sprayed, and the artisans must adjust in real time, using their experience and intuition to control the transition. The result? Each Ombré car is a unique work of art — one that looks absolutely flawless to the naked eye.
The Ombré Flying Spur is set to make its grand debut at the Southampton International Boat Show, running until 28 September. This unveiling follows the first use of the Ombré technique on the Continental GT, revealed earlier this year at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. Bentley has confirmed that more exclusive colourways will be released in the near future.
With the introduction of Ombré by Mulliner, Bentley demonstrates yet again why it stands at the pinnacle of luxury automotive design. The technique is more than paint — it is bespoke artistry, innovation, and heritage combined. Each car becomes a statement, not just of power and prestige, but also of individuality.
For those who demand the extraordinary, the Flying Spur Ombré proves that Bentley doesn’t just build cars — it creates moving masterpieces.
