One of the rarest and most extreme McLaren track cars ever built will cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction, with an estimated value of $2.5 million to $3 million. This example is the 20th of only 25 Solus GTs produced worldwide and represents the sixth model in McLaren’s prestigious Ultimate Series.
Originally conceived as a futuristic concept for the Gran Turismo Sport video game in 2017, the Solus GT evolved from a digital design into a no-compromise, track-only hypercar. Free from road-car regulations and racing homologation requirements, it was engineered with a singular mission: maximizing performance through advanced aerodynamics, lightweight construction, and uncompromising engineering.
Every element of the Solus GT serves a functional purpose. Its distinctive sliding canopy opens to reveal a fighter jet-inspired single-seat cockpit positioned at the center of the carbon-fiber monocoque. Aggressive aerodynamic features—including sculpted wheel pods, a prominent front splitter, ground-effect tunnels, and an expansive rear diffuser—generate immense downforce, reportedly exceeding the vehicle’s own weight at speed. Extensive computational fluid dynamics analysis and wind tunnel development further refined its aerodynamic efficiency.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 producing 829 horsepower. Designed specifically for the Solus GT, the engine incorporates individual throttle bodies, gear-driven camshafts, and belt-free auxiliary systems for instantaneous throttle response and exceptional reliability. Acting as a stressed structural member within the carbon-fiber chassis, the V-10 enhances rigidity while delivering direct mechanical feedback to the driver. A seven-speed sequential racing gearbox with straight-cut gears and a carbon-fiber clutch provides lightning-fast gear changes.
With a curb weight of just over 2,200 pounds, the Solus GT accelerates from 0-60 mph in approximately 2.5 seconds and exceeds 200 mph, while its naturally aspirated engine revs beyond 10,000 rpm, producing an unmistakable soundtrack and an intensely engaging driving experience.
This particular Solus GT was extensively specified by its original owner, resulting in a factory MSRP exceeding $3 million. It is finished in an eye-catching exposed carbon-fiber exterior accented with vivid green highlights, complemented by a cockpit trimmed in carbon fiber and Alcantara with matching green detailing. The sale also includes a factory-issued scale model and a collection of professional McLaren racing travel cases.
