To mark its two decades of promoting automotive excellence, the 20th Amelia Island Concours dโ€™Elegance, set for March 13-15, 2015, is reprising its inaugural event by bringing back its first honoree, Sir Stirling Moss. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Mossโ€™ landmark win in the Mille Miglia for Mercedes-Benzโ€”as well as the dual Formula One and Sports Car World Championships claimed by Mercedes that yearโ€”the concours will feature a sampling of 20 of Mossโ€™ most famous racecars, and heading that list will be the No. 722 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR that carried him and journalist Denis Jenkinson to victory in Italy.

โ€œWe intend to make the 20th anniversary Amelia Concours an unforgettable event,โ€ said Bill Warner, the eventโ€™s founder and chairman. โ€œSir Stirling will be reunited with the 722 on our 20th anniversary field on Sunday morning, March 15. This will be the first time in more than a decade that Sir Stirling will drive 722 in America.โ€

Moss scored every Mercedes-Benz victory during the 1955 World Sports Car Championship season, beginning with Mayโ€™s legendary triumph in the epic 1,000-mile lap of Italy. In September, he gave himself a 26th birthday present of victory in the Tourist Trophy at Dundrod, in Ireland, that brought Mercedes-Benz a step closer to the world title, then sealed the championship for Mercedes-Benz with victory in the final round, the brutal Targa Florio.
