The Artcurial Automobiles sur les Champs 2012 auction was held 11 November in Paris, resulting in three million euros in total sales and a 78% sell-through rate. The 4th annual sale saw more than 5,000 visitors at the private garage of the Hotel Dassault on the Champs Elysees, which was transformed into a showcase for the event.
The Artcurial Automobiles sur les Champs 2012 sale of cars and automobilia, which realised €3,050,000, presented a total of 133 lots, with 73 collector cars, of which half were offered at no reserve. Some fifteen cars were bought by foreign buyers.
Highlights of the 2012 sale included a star of the rally scene, the 1974 Lancia Stratos Group IV Competition Client, which sold for €360,000. The 1950 Citroen 15/6 Traction Cabriolet that belonged to parfumier Jean-Paul Guerlain achieved €88,200 and the 1957 Arnolt Bristol Bolide changed hands for €157,900.
Amongst the Italian cars, the 1972 Dino 246 GT in GTS form, estimate €120,000 – 140,000, sold for €145,300, while the 1962 Fiat 500 D Coach from the collection of designer children’s clothing company Catimini, made €18,500 (estimate €10,000 – 15,000), and the 1963 Fiat 500 Giardiniera with Abarth modifications, made almost double the pre-sale estimate of €12,000 – 16,000, selling for €22,600.
Matthieu Lamoure, Managing Director of Artcurial Motorcars, commented, “The recent strong growth of some 64% comes from our ability to reach an international clientele and to present cars that are new to the market. I also believe that the kindred spirit and closeness of our team offers a special ambience recognised by our customers. It is worth noting that if Artcurial Motorcars was a auction house in its own right, it would be the fourth largest in France!”
Artcurial offered 73 cars for sale, with 57 finding new owners, reflecting a 78% sales rate. The total sales volume was €3,050,000 and the average price per car sold was €53,509. In 2011, Artcurial offered 68 cars for sale, with 58 finding new owners, reflecting an 85% sale rate. The total sales volume was €2,688,474 and the average price per car sold was €46,353.
