As preparations proceed for the 2nd Annual Bahamas Speed Week Revival, scheduled for November 24 through December 2 in Nassau, a number of exceptional cars and drivers have committed to the event. BSWR Patron Sir Stirling Moss and Event Ambassador Derek Bell, MBE, have recently been joined by Grand Marshal Brian Redman on the celebrity front, while the list of expected cars is also growing.
Topping the entry will be the only remaining Ferrari 375MM Pininfarina Spyder (pictured below) that remains in original, unrestored condition. Then driven by Duncan Black, the Ferrari last raced in the Bahamas in 1955, when Black contested both the Governor’s Trophy race and the Ferrari Race. The car had begun its competitive life at Sebring in 1954 where Phil Hill and Bill Spear dueled the leading Lancia D-24s in the early going before retiring. After aging quietly in a barn for 40 years, the Ferrari was acquired two years ago by an Austrian collector who has refreshed it and believes it should be used as originally intended.
Among cars making their returns to the Revival will be Mike and Dawn Fisher’s Corvette-powered Bocar (pictured above), and the pristine Mercedes-Benz 190SL of Kurt and Briggitte Oberhänsli, while David and Kate Cottingham will bring David’s Ferrari 500TRC from the UK, and local residents Peter and Pippa Vaslov will compete in an Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8 and a 1275 Mini Cooper S, respectively.
