The be-winged BMW 3.0 CSLs that American fans quickly dubbed โBatmobilesโ and which took U.S. racing by storm in the mid-โ70s, are to be featured at this yearโs Amelia Island Concours dโElegance, set for March 7-9 on the golf course at the Ritz-Carlton hotel.
Among its other successes, perhaps the most memorable win for the exotic German coupe came in the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1975, where Allan Moffat, Sam Posey and Brian Redman drove their factory entry into Victory Lane to score the carโs first major international win. Apart from their iconic works liveries, several CSLs displayed the work of artist Alexander Calder, previously know for his large-scale mobiles. His first โArt Carโ kicked off a run of similarly painted other BMW racers that spanned three decades.
