Bonhams Goodwood Revival (2014) – Auction Results

The Bonhams Goodwood Revival Auction 2014 was held Saturday 13th September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, England, resulting in total sales of ยฃ15.4 million. With 106 motor cars and 172 lots of automobilia sold, this year’s Revival auction was the biggest to date.

James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Director, said, โ€œWhat a weekend โ€“ beautiful weather, fantastic cars, and hours of exciting bidding in what has been our biggest Goodwood Revival sale ever. Top lot the Lagonda โ€˜EPE 97โ€™ captured everyoneโ€™s attention with its illustrious racing history, but with several star cars, bidders had a huge diversity of motoring to ignite their interest. The auction received attention from all around the globe, with bids coming in from the United States, the far East, and all over Europe โ€“ a great sale to end the summer season.”

The top result at the 2014 Bonhams Goodwood Revival went the 1936 Lagonda LG45R Rapide Sports Racing Two-Seater, or โ€˜EPE 97โ€™ as it’s known, that set a new world record when it achieved ยฃ1,569,500. In its racing life, โ€˜EPE 97โ€™ was a Fox and Nicholl Team Car and competed at the highest level in international events such as the Grand Prix de l’ACF at Montlhรฉry, RAC Tourist Trophy race, British Racing Drivers’ Club 500-Mile and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937.

Elsewhere in the sale, another world record was broken with the 1930 OM 665 SS MM Superba. The pre-war sports racing car began life with class winning success in the Mille Miglia in 1930. The OM sold far above estimate at ยฃ1,255,900 to a bidder located in the room.

This yearโ€™s Revival also played host to the Maranello Rosso Collection Part II (See Maranello Rosso Collection Part I – Auction Report). With ten Ferraris and ten Abarths, the collection of classics from the Italian marqueโ€™s collectively sold for ยฃ3,510,190.

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Maserati, the 1937 Maserati Tipo 6CM Single-Seat Racing Vetturetta – one of the quickest pre-War racing cars around – sold for ยฃ606,300, and a 1933 Maserati Tipo 4CM Single-Seat Racing Vetturetta sold for ยฃ427,100.
