Car Of The Day: Amphicar Model 770

The Amphicar Model 770 is a unique car that can be driven on both land and water. It was produced from 1961 to 1968, and a total of 3,878 units were built. The car was designed by Hans Trippel and manufactured by the Quandt Group in Germany. Its name is a combination of “amphibious” and “car”.

The Amphicar 770 uses a 4-cylinder British-built Triumph Herald motor mounted at the rear that produces 43hp. The car’s top speeds are 7mph on water and 70mph on land, hence its car’s model number, 770.

This 1964 Amphicar Model 770 sold for $143,000 on Bring A Trailer last year.

In the United States, 3,046 Amphicar 770s were imported between 1961 and 1967. The car was no longer imported after 1968 due to US Government regulations.

Today, the Amphicar 770 is highly valued and sought after by collectors and can sell for more than $100,000 at auction.
