Lea Francis

Léon Bollée Automobiles, a French car manufacturer, is celebrated for its innovative contributions to the early automotive industry. Founded by inventor and entrepreneur Léon Bollée in 1895, the company quickly gained attention with its groundbreaking three-wheeled vehicles, known as Voiturettes. These Voiturettes were notable for their advanced engineering, featuring a rear-mounted engine and a belt-driven transmission system that provided a smooth and efficient ride. Léon Bollée Automobiles also pioneered the use of pneumatic tires, enhancing both comfort and performance. The company’s vehicles were well-regarded for their reliability and engineering excellence, winning several races and setting early speed records. Despite its eventual decline and acquisition by Morris Motors in the late 1920s, Léon Bollée Automobiles left an indelible mark on automotive history, remembered for its innovative spirit and contributions to the development of early motor vehicles.
