A Century of Success – Part 1

Alfa Romeo will be 100 years old on June 24 and its motor sport pedigree almost 99โ€”one of only a handful of companies that can trace their motor racing heritage back to the start of the 20th century.

But Alfaโ€™s is a kind of pear-shaped pedigree, in which the Italian company wonย  no fewer than three Grand Prix and Formula 1 World Championships, two World Sports Car Championships, 10 Mille Miglias, eight Targa Florios and four consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans in its first 60 years or so. While it has been almost continuously active in the sport for nearly a century, it encountered mixed fortunes as the third millennium came into view.
