On July 4, 1965, Bob Bondurant drove the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601 to victory at Reims, France, to clinch the first and only World Manufacturerโs Championship for the United States.
โWinning that World Championship was the crowning achievement of my career,โ offered Bondurant. โI think itโs wonderful that the car is being showcased 40 years later.โ
That historic machine will be up for sale during the 22nd Annual Dana Mecum Spring Auction, May 13โ17, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is expected to fetch a record eight-figure price for an American automobile.
โThe legacy of its World Manufacturerโs Championship win stays with us more than four decades later,โ said Dana Mecum, president, Mecum Auction, โreminding us of one of the proudest moments in U.S. race history and a competitive spirit of victory against all odds.โ
The Mecum Auction Company has specialized in the sale of collector cars for more than 20 years, and last year sold its 50,000th car.ย More information is available online at www.Mecum.com or by calling (815) 568-8888.
