Championship-Winning Cobra Coupe To Be Sold

On July 4, 1965, Bob Bondurant drove the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601 to victory at Reims, France, to clinch the first and only World Manufacturerโ€™s Championship for the United States.

โ€œWinning that World Championship was the crowning achievement of my career,โ€ offered Bondurant. โ€œI think itโ€™s wonderful that the car is being showcased 40 years later.โ€

That historic machine will be up for sale during the 22nd Annual Dana Mecum Spring Auction, May 13โ€“17, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is expected to fetch a record eight-figure price for an American automobile.

โ€œThe legacy of its World Manufacturerโ€™s Championship win stays with us more than four decades later,โ€ said Dana Mecum, president, Mecum Auction, โ€œreminding us of one of the proudest moments in U.S. race history and a competitive spirit of victory against all odds.โ€

The Mecum Auction Company has specialized in the sale of collector cars for more than 20 years, and last year sold its 50,000th car.ย  More information is available online at www.Mecum.com or by calling (815) 568-8888.
