Masters Historic Racing (2006) – Classic Battles

The two Grand Prix Masters races for Formula One cars were a reminder of just what contemporary Formula One appears to lackโ€”overtaking and spectacle. Although Peter Wuensch/Wolf WR1 took an easy victory from Manfredo Rossi de Montelera/Brabham BT42 after a challenging Chris Perkins/Surtees TS16 had problems in Race 1, there were battles all down the field that included the welcome entry of Australian Brian Wilsonโ€™s Brabham BT24 that Jack Brabham had taken to GP wins in 1967. Race 2 was a cracker, with Peter Wuensch and his Wolf WR1 facing a much stronger challenge from Rossiโ€™s Brabham BT42. These two traded places throughout, with Rossi taking the flag by just 0.383 seconds from Wuensch. Veteran Brian Redman proved that โ€œonce a racer, always a racerโ€ with a very strong showing to 7th in the 1971 ex-Gethin BRM P160 V-12, scrapping all race with John Crowson/Ensign MN177, Sid Hoole/Lotus 80 and Frank Lyons/McLaren M26. The Lola T70 Mk3B of Jonathan Baker took World Sportscar Masters honors in a race that saw a number of entries black-flagged for pitting before allotted time (after a shower of rain) and others for speeding in the pit lane.
