Could Ford and Shelby be Working on a 1,000 HP Mustang?

A Tuned GT500

People are currently very excited about the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. It is, after all, an exciting car. The thing puts out 760 hp from its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. It’s built for the track and tearing up the street. The car is, for lack of a better term, a beast of a Mustang. The car also isn’t enough for Ford and Shelby, apparently.

The publication CarBuzz was at the Shelby Heritage Center in Las Vegas recently to check out the car, and had a chance to chat with the folks behind the car. Apparently, the engine in the GT500 is actually capable of 1,000 hp, and Shelby might just be the company to build it.

The up-tuned GT500 wouldn’t be called the Super Snake, which is a model that Shelby already produces. It’ll be called something else. “That name is currently reserved for our 5.0-liter model,” Shelby American President Gary Patterson said. “It may be a new name, or maybe a name from the past.

This is good news for anyone who wants a Mustang with hypercar levels of power. That sounds absolutely insane to us, but we’re not mad about it. As far as we’re concerned, Shelby should take one of these GT500s back into its shop and get to work. We can’t wait to see an even more beastly version.
