Champion rally driver Paddy Hopkirk MBE (above, Jakob Ebrey photo courtesy of BRDC) was elected president of the British Racing Drivers Club at the club’s recent Annual General Meeting at Silverstone, following Derek Warwick’s decision not to stand for re-election. Outgoing president Warwick received a standing ovation from the membership in recognition of all he has done for the Club during the last 10 years, and was then elected as a vice president.
Hopkirk, a BRDC Member since 1965, is well known both within and outside the club having served as a director of the club for nine years and been a vice president since 2006. Although best known for his rallying exploits — including wins on the Monte Carlo, Alpine, Acropolis and Austrian Alpine rallies — he was elected a BRDC Member based solely on his racing successes, which included class wins at Le Mans, Sebring, the Targa Florio and several other major endurance races.
