Unveiled in Dubai in 2019, the McLaren Elva is the brandโs first modern open-top, road-legal sports car. Its name references Frank Nicholsโ Elva race cars, which built customer versions of Bruce McLarenโs M1 prototypes in the 1960s. The Elva became the fifth model in McLarenโs Ultimate Series, following the F1, P1, Senna, and Speedtail.
Unlike the original steel-framed Elva racers, the modern Elva is largely carbon fiber, sharing its architecture with the Senna. The chassis, doors, and seats are all carbon, contributing to a claimed wet weight of 1,269 kg, the lightest McLaren road car to date. Titanium brake calipers further reduced mass. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 delivering 804 horsepower through an automatic transmission, making it McLarenโs most powerful non-hybrid. The engine, dual-clutch transmission, and active suspension are Senna-derived but retuned.
Key innovations include a four-outlet Inconel and titanium exhaust and McLarenโs Active Air Management System, which creates a โvirtual windscreenโ to reduce wind buffeting without glass. The cockpit features minimalist trim, advanced displays, and Ultrafabric seats designed for durability and heat resistance.
This 2021 McLaren Elva Roadster is a one-off MSO commission and one of just 149 examples built, finished in a striking Gulf Blue and Orange livery created to complement Lando Norris. Showing just 850 miles, the Elva features a carbon-fiber monocoque, exposed tinted satin carbon exterior trim, and front and rear diffusers.
The black leather carbon racing seats are trimmed in Gulf colors, joined by an exposed carbon steering wheel with an orange center stripe. Additional highlights include carbon-ceramic brakes with black calipers, a deployable rear wing aero package, and a dashboard signed by Lando Norris. Originally sold new by Scottsdale McLaren, it includes manuals, a Gulf key fob, and the factory tonneau cover.
