
On March 2, Louis Unser passed away at the age of 72. UnÂser was the older brÂother of Bobby and Al Unser, Sr. and followed the family tradÂition of racecar drÂÂiving until 1964 when he was diagnosed with multiple scleÂÂÂÂÂrosis. After retiring from active driving, Unser went to work for Shelby AmÂerican building engines for the Cobra teÂam and working as a member of their pit crew. In 1966, Unser started his own business of building race engines and working on racecars. Unser’s powerful engines took many drivers, including his brother BobÂby and Mario Andretti, to victory in the famed Pikes Peak Hillclimb.
Unser is survived by LaVerne, his wife of 35 years, and his daughter Lynn.
