Mecum Kissimmee 2016 – Auction Results

1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible (Lot F109) sold for $2,675,000

The Mecum Kissimmee 2016 auction was held January 15-24 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida, resulting in nearly $93 million in total sales and 78 percent sell-through rate. The ten-day auction totals constitute an almost 30-percent increase over last yearโ€™s sale, with sale prices up by an average of 20 percent.

Mecum Auctions President and Founder Dana Mecum commented, โ€œThe jump in totals, the rise in individual vehicle values and the 78-percent sell-through rate we achieved are evidence of the extremely high quality of the vehicles and Road Art offered at the 2016 event as well as the strong demand. Itโ€™s a clear indication of the thriving state of both the collector-car and memorabilia markets.โ€

The top sales at the Mecum’s 2016 Kissimmee sale were dominated by Hemi power with a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible, one of five 4-speed Hemi Cuda Convertibles produced that year, leading all sales at $2,675,000. It was followed by a rare 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible (Lot F102) that hammered at $2,300,000 and the 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T Convertible (Lot F111) for $1,650,000. All three were offered from the Brett Torino Collection.

While nearly every segment was represented at the auction, American muscle cars dominated the Top-10 at this year’s event. The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Tanker (Lot S160) at $710,000 and the 1970 Ford Torino King Cobra (Lot F104) at $525,000 were the only non-Mopar offerings that made the list.

The two full Road Art-exclusive days brought strong memorabilia sales, with 1,300 items sold and top sales including a rare porcelain sign and a vintage gas pump globe, each of which sold for $55,000. Including the Road Art, more than 3,000 lots were sold throughout the 10-day auction.
