Moss Receives Spirit of the Woodcote Trophy

Sir Stirling Moss, winner of 16 Formula One Grands Prix and countless other races, has been awarded the Royal Automobile Clubโ€™s Spirit of the Woodcote Trophy for his efforts in preparing his OSCA FS 372 for this yearโ€™s Spa Six Hours. Teaming with co-driver Roger Earl, Moss claimed victory in the C1 class at the season finale of the Motor Racing Legendsโ€“organized series for postwar sports racing cars. Upon acquiring the car two years ago, Moss entrusted its restoration to specialists Hall & Hall, but a series of teething problems with the finished machine kept it out of action until Spa.

The award, presented this year for the third time, is sponsored by Fiskens, the London-based purveyor of fine historic automobiles.

Fiskens office manager James Mitchell explained the rationale behind Sir Stirlingโ€™s nomination: โ€œAn awful lot of emotional energy and hard work got the car to Spa, and that typifies the attitude of competitors in the RAC Woodcote Trophy. Sir Stirling is ultimately a fellow enthusiast, and had to work very hard to get the car on the grid.โ€
