“Mr. Motor Racing,” Sir Stirling Moss, has confirmed his attendance at the second annual Flywheel Festival, scheduled for Bicester Heritage on Saturday and Sunday July 2nd and 3rd. The British legend, winner of 212 of the 527 races he entered between 1948 and 1962, will attend with his wife Susie, and will be reunited with a number of his race-winning cars and also sign autographs for festivalgoers throughout the weekend.
“Susie and I are thrilled to be making our first visit to Flywheel,” said Moss. “It should be an action-packed weekend, full of fun for all the family. We look forward to seeing you there!”
Joining Sir Stirling at Flywheel will be the Lotus 18 in which he won the 1961 Monaco Grand Prix (above). In an event widely regarded as one of the best Formula One races of all time, Moss held off the much more powerful Ferraris of Phil Hill and Richie Ginther, maintaining his qualifying pace for the full race distance to claim victory by a matter of seconds. The Lotus 18 is now actively campaigned by its current owner, and has been restored to the 1961 Monaco GP specification.
Moss’ 1952 Reims Grand Prix-winning Jaguar C-Type, the first disc-braked car ever to take a race victory, will also be running on the demonstration track at Flywheel. Driving XKC 005, Sir Stirling won on an incredibly hot and competitive day, and nearly collapsed from exhaustion after taking the checkered flag.
Hosted at Bicester Heritage, Britain’s best-preserved Second World War bomber station, the Flywheel Festival offers visitors the chance to witness a vast array of historic cars and bikes in action on the specially designed demonstration circuit. Also scheduled are spectacular flying displays from iconic vintage aircraft and a live tank display arena. Flywheel is complemented by a traditional funfair, vintage trade fair and live music entertainment, making it a perfect day out for the entire family.
Adult single-day advance discounted tickets for Flywheel 2016 are £23, with adult two-day weekend tickets available for £41. All adult tickets include a copy of the official Flywheel souvenir program, a £5 value.
Children’s (ages 5-15) advance tickets are £7 for a single day or £12 for the weekend. Single-day family advance tickets (two adults and up to three children) are just £52, while a family weekend ticket is available for £92. Children under five are admitted for free.
