The weekend of October 14โ16 will bring perhaps the worldโs largest gathering of Porsche racecars, racers and personalities to Californiaโs Monterey Peninsula. At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Porsche Cars North America will hold Rennsport IV, the fourth iteration of its quasi-triannual homage to its racing past.
This Octoberโs Rennsport will focus on the 911 and its many racing variants, as well as the mighty 917, the 956/962 prototypes from the โ70s and โ80s, and even the successful RS Spyder of more recent years. Adding to this yearโs event, influential Porsche racer Brian Redman was recently named โOfficial Ambassador to Porsche Rennsport Reunion IVโ by Porsche Cars North America. In his role, Redman will serve as consultant and advisor to the organizers as they prepare for their October extravaganza.
โI canโt think of a more qualified person than Brian to help us realize another successful Rennsport Reunion,โ said PCNA President and CEO Detlev von Platen. โNot only was he instrumental in designing and organizing the previous venues, but with his own colorful racing history, not the least with some of our most famous racecars, Brian Redman personifies the spirit and fascination that we want to encourage with this next gathering of Porsche racecars and their designers and drivers.โ
And as if the Rennsport Reunion wasnโt enough for the worldโs Stuttgart stalwarts, the same weekend will also play host to the Porsche Race Car Classic at the nearby Quail Lodge Resort on Sunday, October 16. This high-end charity event will focus on Porscheโs earlier machinery with proceeds going to support lung cancer research.
โThe event will be unparalleled in both scope and quality,โ said event organizer Steve Heinrichs. โRarely-seen cars from the stables of the Porsche AG Museum, Collier Collection, Ingram Collection, Ranson Webster Collection, Dr. Julio Palmaz Collection, and Seinfeld Collection will be on hand. We expect more than ten Abarths, more than fifteen 904s, a dozen or more 550s, several 718s, probably six Elva-Porsches, special 356 racers, and much moreโ he added.
With two great Porsche events, in one idyllic spot, this should be an Octoberfest to remember.
