The Second Annual Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, which will take place June 4–5, at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, has attracted an entry of 400 significant automobiles from all over the world. They will take part in races for a baker’s dozen of race groups, and included among their number are 26 examples of McLarens, the event’s featured marque.
Among those McLarens will be Richard Griot’s 1967 M6A/1, the car company founder Bruce McLaren drove to that year’s Can-Am championship, and Chris MacAllister’s 1971 M8F/1 (pictured) with which Denis Hulme finished 2nd to teammate Peter Revson for the ’71 Can-Am crown. A pair of McLaren F1 cars will also be on hand, a 1970 M14A owned by Scott Drnek, and Bob Baker’s ex-Jody Scheckter 1973 Yardley M23.
“Choosing McLaren as our marque means we will pay special tribute to the name, the teams and the cars that McLaren has produced,” said event organizer Steve Earle of General Racing Ltd. “While we are featuring the McLaren, this year’s field of racecars is indeed eclectic, historic and significant, and the weekend should provide every racing fan a wonderful experience.” A complete list of all the entries, and ticketing information may be found at www.sonomahistoric.com.
