1964 Sunbeam Tiger Mk I

Jack Brabham, who had raced Sunbeam Alpine cars with much success, recommended fitting a V8 into the car. The result was the Sunbeam, a poorman's cobra, that stuffed the small block Ford into the Alpine body.

Rootes Group’s West Coast manager, Ian Garrad when to Carrol Shelby who selected the 260 cid Ford Fairlane small-block and finished the first prototype on April 29, 1963. Major modifications included a reshaped suspension strut and a thick sway bars.

In some cases the car was criticized because the brakes, steering and suspension couldn't cope with the much more powerful V8.
