MOTORSPORT - LE MANS SERIES 2010 - 1000 KM DE SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS - 07 TO 09/05/2010 - SPA (BEL) - PHOTO : JEAN MICHEL LE MEUR / DPPI -

1000km of Spa

Today, the first real fight between Audi and Peugeot in 2010 concluded at SPA. Both had a full contingent of factory LMP1 racecars and Peugeot took top honors after 6 hours and 139 laps .

The race was not without indecent as Audi lost their number 8 car to the tirewall and a power outage suspended the race for almost 40 minutes. In the late stages, Audi blamed the rain for their performance which let Tom Kristensen get passed. This meant Peugeot scored a resounding 1-2 victory, with the Audi not too far behind.

Since the FIAGT championship has abandoned GT2, the typical Porsche/Ferrari battle will only continue in the Le Mans Series. At SPA, Team Felbermayr Proton kept their Porsche ahead of the very capable AF Corse Ferraris for their second victory in a row.

As the real Le Mans 24 is fast approaching in 33 days, it now seems the battle between Peugeot and Audi will be tighter than ever. Unfortunately, the gasoline-powered LMP1 cars were 12 laps down at SPA and are going to be underdogs for the entire year.
