CHEVROLET

Chevrolet, or Chevy for short, is a division of General Motors. It is one of the most popular GM marques. In the North American market in 2005, Chevrolet outsold its main American rival, Ford, for the first time in 19 years, making it once again the top-selling marque in the United States. Chevrolet has one of the most recognizable logos in the world and it has changed little through the history.

It is often described as a cross and is known in North America as a bowtie. However, despite featuring two intersecting patterns, the logo has little to do with both cross and bowtie. The horizontal parallelepiped is overlapped by the square to form a cross-like figure. It is painted yellow and gold and is easily associated with one of the biggest car brands. Sometimes referred to as the “Chevy bowtie”, the bow is perpendicularly placed over the company’s name.

The Chevy logo is universally popular for its nonpareil creativity, simplicity and clarity. It has a massive influence over the automobile industry. It was first introduced by Mr. Durant in 1913. While some credit Mr. Louis as its sole creator, who incorporated the Swiss cross in his design, the others suggest that it was actually Durant who designed the Chevy logo, taking inspiration from a charming wallpaper which he had seen in a French hotel.

The famous Chevrolet logo is designed in gold and yellow colors, decorated with a silver border. Such vivid colors stand out the brand’s logo and call for enthusiasm and strength. The company’s name beneath the logo is written in black letters. Yet, the present colors have only been used since the beginning of the 21st century. Before that, the emblem used to be black and white or blue.
