Bugatti Unveils One-of-One W16 Mistral ‘Caroline’, a floral masterpiece marking the end of an era

As the curtain falls on Bugatti’s legendary W16 chapter, the marque has revealed one of its most poetic and personal creations to date: the Bugatti W16 Mistral ‘Caroline’. Crafted through Bugatti’s exclusive Sur Mesure program, this bespoke roadster transcends performance, emerging as a rolling work of art infused with emotion, craftsmanship, and individuality.

Commissioned by a long-standing Bugatti client, ‘Caroline’ is a heartfelt tribute to his daughter, with its identity rooted in delicacy, grace, and the timeless beauty of flowers. What began as an abstract vision evolved, through close collaboration with Bugatti’s design team, into a hypercar that blends Haute Couture inspiration with the raw power of the brand’s final W16-powered roadster.

At the center of this transformation is Bugatti’s Color & Material Finish division, led by Sabine Consolini, whose team meticulously shaped every surface, texture, and tone. Drawing from the lavender fields of Provence and the elegance of Parisian fashion, they translated nature’s fleeting beauty into a permanent automotive statement.

The exterior is defined by a bespoke “Lavender” finish, developed through extensive experimentation, delivering a dynamic interplay of violet hues that shift between warm and cool tones under changing light. This ethereal paintwork is contrasted by exposed “Violet Carbon” along the lower body, adding both visual depth and technical edge.

The artistry peaks at the rear, where the retractable wing becomes a hand-painted canvas. Delicate floral motifs bloom across its surface in layered shades of lilac and iris, culminating in the name “Caroline” elegantly inscribed at its center. Revealed in full when the air brake deploys, the wing transforms into a moving piece of art, precision-engineered and painstakingly crafted.

Inside, the cabin continues the narrative with a serene yet expressive palette of “Blanc” and “Minuit” leather, enriched by violet accents and carbon fiber detailing. Intricate floral embroidery, requiring thousands of stitches, adorns the headrests and door panels, with flowing patterns that evoke motion and life.

At the heart of the cockpit sits a sculptural nod to Bugatti heritage: the iconic ‘Dancing Elephant’ by Rembrandt Bugatti, encased in tinted glass and seamlessly integrated into the car’s violet-toned interior.

The W16 Mistral ‘Caroline’ is more than a hypercar, it is a deeply personal expression of identity and artistry, brought to life through Bugatti’s unmatched craftsmanship. As the final notes of the W16 era are written, this one-off creation stands as a fitting and unforgettable tribute: where engineering excellence meets emotional storytelling in its purest form.

Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti stated : “Creating a Sur Mesure vehicle is always an extraordinary journey; one that’s defined by trust, collaboration and a shared pursuit of perfection. With the W16 Mistral ‘Caroline’, we have had the privilege of bringing an exceptionally elegant vision to life, working closely with the customer to shape every detail with precision and care. The car is of remarkable beauty and individuality – one that reflects Bugatti’s heritage of savoir-faire and innovation, and the unique story and graceful taste of its owner. It is this fusion of legacy and personal expression that defines Sur Mesure at its very highest level – and in every respect, a privilege for each and every member of the Bugatti team bestowed with the honor of transforming a customer’s dream into reality.”
