McLaren Automotive paid homage to the legendary McLaren F1 in 2020 with the introduction of the Speedtail, an ultra-exclusive hybrid hypercar limited to just 106 examples worldwide—the same production figure as its iconic predecessor. Designed as the brand’s ultimate expression of speed and innovation, the Speedtail remains the fastest road-going McLaren ever built, combining futuristic styling, advanced aerodynamics, and hybrid performance capable of reaching a remarkable 250 mph.
Power comes from a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, derived from the McLaren P1’s powerplant and enhanced with upgraded internals and improved cooling. Working alongside an electric motor and battery system developed with McLaren’s Formula E expertise, the hybrid drivetrain delivers a combined 1,035 horsepower. Instant electric torque and immense combustion power provide relentless acceleration, while the compact dielectric-cooled battery was regarded as one of the most power-dense units ever fitted to a production vehicle.
Like the F1, the Speedtail features a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque and a distinctive three-seat layout with the driver positioned centrally. Its elongated teardrop profile, active aerodynamics, adaptive suspension, and dedicated Velocity Mode—which lowers the ride height, optimizes aerodynamic surfaces, and retracts the digital side cameras—work together to maximize high-speed stability and efficiency.
Set to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction on 15 August, this example is number 72 of only 106 examples produced worldwide. Originally delivered through McLaren San Francisco, it is finished in an elegant Athera Grey exterior over Rich Brown and Tan Semi-Aniline leather, complemented by exposed carbon fiber, Zircon trim, machined aluminum accents, and Stealth Titanium exhaust detailing. The original window sticker totaled approximately £1.84 million (~$2.33 million), including roughly £86,000 (~$107,363) in bespoke McLaren Special Operations enhancements.
Displaying only 231 miles from new, the Speedtail has had two owners and has been maintained exclusively by authorized McLaren service centers. In June 2026, McLaren Orlando completed a comprehensive $32,704 service that included fluid changes, filter replacements, software updates, clutch and transmission servicing, and a full inspection.
Estimated to fetch as much as $2.35 million, this Speedtail also carries a U.S. “show or display” exemption, requiring NHTSA approval for ownership transfers and limiting annual road use to 2,500 miles. Exceptionally preserved and comprehensively maintained, it represents one of the most technologically advanced and collectible modern McLarens ever produced.
