The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has added another milestone to its growing list of achievements by conquering one of motorsport’s most demanding events—the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Known as the “Race to the Clouds,” the legendary Colorado competition challenges drivers with a 14,115-foot ascent featuring 156 corners, steep elevation changes, and no guardrails, making it one of the toughest tests of performance and precision since its inaugural running in 1916.
Chevrolet entered the event with a clear objective: establish the ZR1X as the fastest production car ever to tackle the iconic mountain. Behind the wheel was IndyCar veteran JR Hildebrand, tasked with exploiting the full capability of the Corvette’s advanced hybrid performance system.
Purpose-built for extreme environments, the ZR1X combines a twin-turbocharged LT7 V8 with a front-mounted electric motor to generate a remarkable 1,250 horsepower. Its intelligent electric all-wheel-drive system delivers exceptional traction and power distribution, enabling the supercar to excel under demanding conditions. Before arriving at Pikes Peak, the ZR1X had already demonstrated its credentials by recording an 8.675-second quarter-mile pass and setting the fastest official Nürburgring lap ever achieved by an American production vehicle.
At Pikes Peak, the Corvette exceeded expectations. Hildebrand completed the climb in an official time of 9:30.104, establishing a new Hybrid Production Car record while eclipsing the previous overall production car benchmark by an impressive 23 seconds.
The record-setting performance further reinforces the ZR1X’s status as Chevrolet’s most capable Corvette to date, showcasing how its combination of electrified power, advanced all-wheel-drive technology, and track-focused engineering can deliver world-class results in one of the planet’s most demanding motorsport challenges.
