Acura NSX Could Get a Type R Next Year

An Expansion of the Second-Gen NSX

Honda Motor Corp has reportedly decided to add two new members to the NSX family. According to rumors coming out of Japan, there will be an NSX Type R and an NSX Spider coming next year.

BestCarWeb didn’t reveal its sources, but the Japanese publication has some pretty specific info. However, it’s probably best to take this with a grain of salt.

The NSX Type R would sit at the top of the NSX range. It would have around 640 hp. This would assume that the engineers would make some tweaks to the hybrid powertrain that’s already in the NSX rather than start with a new setup. The top speed would be 191 and the car would be able to make 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds.

The car would also get a re-tuned suspension system, larger carbon-ceramic brakes, and more-advanced aero. That aero kit would likely be based on the NSX GT3 car and include a large rear wing.

The NSX Spider would stay true to the coupe in terms of performance figures and powertrain. It’ll be a little more than Acura just hacking the top off, though. It will be interesting to see how the company manages it or if it will be a Targa-style roof like the first-generation NSX.
