In a move that caught the auction world by surprise, Christieโ€™s announced the postponement of its much-publicized sale of a 1939 Auto Union, just a week before the car was to cross the block at Retromobile. The venerable auction house released only the briefest of statements which read โ€œChristieโ€™s today announced that it will postpone the sale of the 1939 Auto Unionโ€“Grand Prix V12 Type D racecar from the February Retromobile sale in Paris pending further exploration into the carโ€™s race history, in collaboration with Audi Tradition.โ€ No further details were available at the time VR went to press.
