Bugatti restores unique Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition prototype through La Maison Pur Sang

When the legendary Bugatti Veyron Super Sport set a production-car top speed record of 431.072 km/h in 2010, it cemented Bugatti’s reputation as a benchmark for hypercar performance. To celebrate that historic achievement, Bugatti produced the exclusive Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition, finished in exposed carbon fiber with the marque’s signature orange accents inspired by the record-breaking car.

Now, more than a decade later, Bugatti’s official heritage and restoration division, La Maison Pur Sang, has completed a meticulous restoration of a unique factory pre-series Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition, returning the historically significant car to its original glory.

A Key Development Car in Bugatti History

Unlike standard customer cars, this particular Veyron Super Sport served as a pre-series development vehicle during the global launch of the World Record Edition. The car traveled internationally, supporting media drives, customer demonstrations, photo shoots, and communications activities that introduced enthusiasts around the world to the engineering marvel that pushed production-car performance to new heights.

Behind the scenes, the vehicle also played a critical role in the development of the production Veyron Super Sport, helping Bugatti engineers refine systems and technologies before the final model reached customers. This deep connection to the record-breaking program makes the car one of the most historically important Veyron examples.

A Six-Month Factory Restoration

After accumulating more than 70,800 km since 2010, the vehicle returned to Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim for a comprehensive refurbishment carried out by the specialists at La Maison Pur Sang. Over the course of six months, technicians restored the car with the same level of care used in building a brand-new Bugatti.

Inside the cabin, leather surfaces were carefully rejuvenated, and the seats restored to their original shape and comfort. The steering wheel, the driver’s primary connection to the car, was also fully serviced to ensure the authentic Veyron driving experience.

The exterior received equally detailed attention. The exposed carbon-fiber bodywork was refinished and protected with a new clear coat, while the iconic Bugatti orange paintwork was renewed to recreate the dramatic contrast that defines the World Record Edition.

Subtle Technical Updates

During the restoration, several pre-series components were upgraded to production specification. Updated electronics and radiator systems were installed to match the final configuration of the Veyron Super Sport.

Crucially, the core mechanical components of the W16 engine and the complex gearbox remain original, preserving the car’s authenticity and its direct connection to one of the most significant chapters in Bugatti’s modern era.

A New Chapter for a Historic Hypercar

With the restoration complete, the unique Veyron Super Sport prototype now joins the collection of a dedicated Bugatti owner. The collector will also receive a Bugatti certification book, documenting the car’s history, its restoration journey in Molsheim, and its role in the development of one of the fastest production cars ever built.

The project highlights Bugatti’s commitment to keeping its legendary machines alive and drivable, ensuring that icons like the Veyron continue to represent the pinnacle of hypercar engineering for generations to come.
