Monterey Car Week (2000) – Corvette to Feature at Monterey

The future of the Monterey Historic Automobile Races was assured in the beginning of December when a new long-term agreement between Laguna Seca Raceway and General Racing Ltd. was reached after months of negotiations.

โ€œThe Monterey Historics is a celebration of historic automobiles and the people who were responsible for their place in history,โ€ said Kathryn Hayworth, president of Laguna Secaโ€™s SCRAMP board. โ€œWe are genuinely pleased to have Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca continue to play an important role with Steve Earle in bringing motorsports history to life for generations of racing enthusiasts.โ€

The 29th Annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races will take place on Aug. 16-18, 2002, and will continue the honored marque tradition by featuring one of America’s sports car icons โ€” the Chevrolet Corvette. Considering the Corvetteโ€™s enormous following in the U.S., this yearโ€™s event could surpass 1999โ€™s record breaking attendance figures of 100,000 when Porsche was the featured marque.
