Gold Ford GT40 Artwork
Artist Chris Dugan paints a study of the GT40 that finished 3rd in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In 1966, the GT40โs finished Le Mans 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. First and second were the Shelby-American cars driven by McLaren and Amon, and Miles and Hulme. They fought out the closest ever finish to the great race, the winning margin being, โofficiallyโ judged to be, just 8 meters.โHowever, the car depicted is the gold-colored 3rd place car, entered by Holman & Moody / Essex Wire Corp,โdriven by Ronnie Bucknam and Dick Hutcheson. It finished some 12 laps behind the other two cars. The original picture was commissioned by the carโs present owner andโpainted in gouache, though limited edition prints are available.
