If you dig through the internet long enough, occasionally you will discover an unexpected surprise. Such is the case with this month’s featured Web site devoted to photos taken at the Indy 500 during the early ’70s.
This interesting gallery of color photos was created by a current motorsport photographer with photos taken by his dad in the early ’70s.
The collection includes on-track action, as well as a large number of pit and driver shots. Of particular interest is a series of photos taken in 1971, when the pace car driver lost control during the start of the race and struck a stand full of photographers (see below)!
