Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (2016) – Recap & Photo Gallery

The Monterey Motorsports Pre-Reunion 2016 was held August 13-14 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California, the weekend prior to the much larger Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. With approximately 300 historic race cars at this yearโ€™s event, the weekend gave fans a great way to preview and enjoy the vintage racing action, while allowing the drivers time to get familiar with the course and sort out their vintage race cars. The Pre-Reunion is the kick-off to the week of everything automotive that is the Monterey Classic Car Week.

The featured marque BMW celebrated its centennial anniversary at the Reunion. During the Pre-Reunion weekend, several Bimmers took to the track including Thomas Strand’s BMW-powered Elva Mk 7S; William Kincaid’s BMW 3.0 CSL: Andrew Cannon’s BMW 3.5 CSL Group 5; Chris Bowden’s BMW M1 Procar; Henry Schmitt’s BMW 320i Turbo and Boris Said’s BMW E46 M3 GTR, to name only a few.

In addition to these great BMWs, the 2016 Monterey Motorsports Pre-Reunion also included other notable entries, such as Ned Spieker’s Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta; Mark Colbert’s Ferrari 250 GT/L Comp; Chris Cox’s Ferrari 250 GTO and Ferrari 412MI; George Tuma’s Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona; Alex Curtis’ Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe; Dean Melling’s Jaguar D-Type; David Swig’s Scarab Mk I; Erickson Shirley’s Lister Costin; Ken Saward’s Mazda 767-B and a great collection of Trans Am and Can-Am racing machines.

In addition to Dennis Gray’s gallery, Victor Varela also documented the 2016 Monterey Pre-Reunion with the following wonderful gallery from Laguna Seca. We split Victor’s photos into two galleries. The first gallery starting below features our favorite images, while the second gallery can be found on the last page of the article and gives a comprehensive view of all the photographs.
