The new Bentley Continental has been such a success that there is to be a four-door model, the Flying Spur. Fine, except that it may be made in Germany along with other Volkswagen products. Some British newspapers have gone into shock! Horror! So far as I am concerned, Bentley ceased making cars in 1931; everything else has been a tribute band.

I have been round the new Rolls-Royce factory, which is opposite the Goodwood motor circuit. BMW, which owns Rolls-Royce, wanted a site at Goodwood because of the festival, the Revival Meeting, Goodwood House and so on. When you sell a Rolls-Royce, you are selling heritage. The only things that actually originate in the Goodwood factory, however, involve wood and leather, everything else is made in Germanyโ€”and even the cow hides come from Bavaria.
