RM Sotheby’s to Auction a 2020 McLaren Speedtail

Number 36 of only 106 examples produced

Set to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Miami auction on February 27 with a projected value of $1.95–$2.35 million, this 2020 McLaren Speedtail is chassis 36 of only 106 examples produced—a nod to the iconic McLaren F1’s total build. Envisioned as the F1’s modern-day heir, the Speedtail brings back the distinctive three-seat cockpit with a centered driver’s position, featherweight engineering, and an uncompromising pursuit of maximum speed.

Its hybrid powertrain combines a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with an electric motor derived from Formula E development, delivering a staggering 1,035 horsepower and a claimed 250-mph top speed, the highest ever for a McLaren road car. The sleek, elongated carbon-fiber body features active aerodynamics, flexible rear ailerons, digital side mirrors, and an ultra-low-drag profile designed for stability at extreme speeds.

This particular car was heavily personalized through McLaren Special Operations, with more than $170,000 in bespoke upgrades. Highlights include a Heritage Atlantic Blue exterior with custom striping, extensive carbon-fiber detailing, Stealth Titanium exhaust finishes, and a refined tan leather cabin accented with carbon fiber and titanium elements.

First delivered in late 2020, it has had just two owners and covered only 280 miles, remaining in near-factory condition with routine McLaren servicing. It comes complete with original documentation, fitted luggage, and a numbered titanium tool kit.

Imported to the U.S. under the “show or display” rule, it is limited to 2,500 miles annually under NHTSA guidelines. Exceptionally rare, technologically cutting-edge, and visually striking, the Speedtail ranks among McLaren’s most significant and desirable hypercars.
